What is Roundup 300? The Southeast District
4-H Program has made it a district-wide goal to bring 300 members ages 13 and older to
State 4-H Roundup this May.
What is Roundup?
Rounup is the State 4-H Convention held on the campus of OSU in
Stillwater, OK every summer, usually in the last of May towards the first of June. The
focus of the program is on leadership training for county teen leaders to learn and bring
back to their respective counties. Round up also offers an opportunity for students to
learn about campus life, meeting friends from around the state of Oklahoma, learn about
career opportunities through educational workshops, and finally to have FUN!!!
How?
This is the fun part -- use
your imagination! You could develop a program called Each One, Reach One (Pittsburg County
Targeted Program for 2000-2001) where every member that has gone to Roundup recruits new
members to attend with them next year. There were 110 delegates at this years Leadership
Conference. If everyone can just get two new delegates to attend Roundup with them, we
would have 330 delegates for Roundup!
Cost?
Cost of State Roundup is relatively expensive: $92.50 in 2000. Plus, you
have to consider cost for chaperones and transportation. How do we over come this problem?
Local club fund-raisers: concession stands, jewelry sales, candle sales, candy sales, ect.
Donors: Ask for the money from local 4-H supporters.
State and District Officer Candidates
Need Your Help
It has become obvious that the Southeast District is one of the smallest
districts at State 4-H Roundup. We had 186 delegates last year, compared to 234 and 286
for other districts. Our current and future state officers candidates have no real chance
at winning a state office, other than District State Vice President (guaranteed spot)
unless we bring more kids to vote. We run if these numbers are so low? We need more
numbers to be more competitive.
